, Vietnam reports 2 more Covid-19 deaths

Vietnam reported two more Covid-19 deaths on Monday afternoon, raising the country’s total fatality tally to 61, according to the Ministry of Health.

Both of the women, aged 87 and 60, died on Sunday at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.

The 87-year-old patient from the northern province of Bac Ninh is the mother of patient 8231. During her stay at the hospital, she was too weak to care for herself. She had to depend on patient 8231’s support. The patient suffered high blood pressure, heart failure, Parkinson’s and had a heart attack in 2017.

On June 4, she tested positive for Covid-19 and was treated at Bac Ninh General Hospital’s Intensive Care Ward. However, due to her worsening condition, she was moved to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi on June 7.

She was later diagnosed with pneumonia due to Covid-19. She was then given ventilators, ECMO and other methods of intensive treatment. But she saw responded poorly to the treatments and died on June 13.

The 60-year-old patient was from Hanoi’s Dong Da District. In November 2019, she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. After the chemotherapy, the disease was brought under control. In April this year, she faced a relapse and was sent to K Hospital in Hanoi again for the treatment.

On May 19, she tested positive for Covid-19 and was taken to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.

Despite being provided with intensive treatment, but her condition did not improve and died on June 13 due to pneumonia caused by Covid-19, septic shock and invasive fungal infection.

To date, Vietnam has witnessed 61 Covid-19-related deaths, including 26 since April 27 when a fourth Covid-19 wave hit the country.
