Vietnam reports 80 new cases Monday morning, 78 new community cases are reported in Bắc Ninh (27),Vĩnh Phúc (19), Đà Nẵng (13), Bắc Giang (5), Hà Nội (9), Hòa Bình (2), Đắk Lắk (1), Điện Biên (1), Lạng Sơn (1).
The two imported cases, one Indian expert arriving from Qatar and another Vietnamese from France were put under immediate quarantine in Đồng Nai Province upon their arrival.
In the past 24 hours, 155 locally-transmitted cases have been recorded, the highest daily infection in Vietnam ever since the pandemic broke out last year, VNExpress reported.
The Ministry of Health has sent an official dispatch to chairpersons of provincial and municipal People’s Committees, directors of provincial and municipal Departments of Health and heads of medical facilities nationwide, asking them to raise the alert against the COVID-19 pandemic to the highest level and actively conduct COVID-19 testing at hospitals.
The document highlights the current serious developments of the pandemic, with outbreaks seen in many provinces and cities nationwide as well as patients and medical workers in some hospitals infected with the coronavirus, including its British and Indian variants with “super transmissibility”.
The ministry ordered the strict implementation of the directions on COVID-19 prevention and control issued by the Prime Minister and the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.
With the alert raised to the highest level, plans to cope with any infections detected in hospitals must be in place, says the dispatch, according to Vietnam News.
On May 6, Cambodia removed lockdown in Phnom Penh after three weeks. The lockdown had triggered anger from some residents who called the distribution of food aid inadequate, according to Reuters.
Upon the restriction removal, health experts have warned about lifting curbs too quickly amid surging infections.
