The Health Ministry announced another 2,161 local Covid-19 patients Monday night, sending Vietnam’s daily tally to 4,175 cases.

Among the night’s tally, Ho Chi Minh City, the epicenter of the ongoing fourth coronavirus wave, recorded 1,539 cases. It was followed by the southern provinces of Binh Duong and Dong Nai with 288 and 80 cases, respectively. The remaining cases were recorded in 19 other provinces and cities.

Of the new cases, 1,990 cases were detected in quarantine zones and other locked down areas.

Vietnam recorded a total of 4,175 local Covid-19 cases on Monday, a drop of 1,712 cases compared to Sunday. In which, 3,678 cases were detected in quarantine or blockade areas and 497 cases are being contact traced.

The health ministry also discharged 380 patients the same day, raising the number of recoveries since the pandemic started early last year to 11,047.

Since the new wave of Covid-19 starting in Vietnam from April 27, 54,325 local infections have been recorded in 58 of its 63 cities and provinces.
