Three foreigners who entered Vietnam illegally were brought to a concentrated quarantine facility in Moc Chau district of the northern border province of Son La, the provincial Department of Public Security announced on March 31.

Accordingly, on March 25, while patrolling in Phat hamlet, Long Sap commune of Moc Chau district, a working team of Long Sap Border Guard Post, the provincial Department of Public Security’s Entry-Exit Management Desk, and Moc Chau district’s police detected three foreigners entering Vietnam illegally

During the investigation, the trio, residing in Guangdong and Guangxi provinces of China, failed to show sufficient documents as regulated.

Then they were brought to the quarantine facility. All are currently in stable health conditions, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Last week, five people have tested positive for Covid-19 after arriving in Vietnam from abroad, two of the new patients including a 44-year-old Chinese man and a 26-year-old Vietnamese woman illegally entered Vietnam from Cambodia. The Chinese man arrived at Moc Bai International Border Gate on March 23 and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 while staying in Binh Duong Province on March 25. He is now being treated at the Binh Duong Provincial General Hospital.

The woman illegally entered Vietnam from Cambodia to Phu Quoc District in the southern province of Kien Giang by boat on March 22.

In 2020, Vietnam’s order troops detained 31,460 people who tried to illegally enter the country as the government stepped up efforts, including border closures, to combat Covid-19.

They included 25,000 people entering from China and the rest were from Laos and Cambodia, Major General Nguyen Xuan Kien, director of the Department of Military Medicine, said at a meeting held on Friday to review the Covid-19 fight.

Vietnam has a land border of more than 5,000 km, 117 border gates and 88 crossings with China, Laos and Cambodia, according to local media.
