Medical authorities in Hanoi are expecting to inoculate 200,000 people in the Vietnamese capital city against COVID-19 per day, according to the municipal People’s Committee.

So far, only Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have set a target of up to 200,000 shots being administered per day.

Priorities will be given to frontline forces in the pandemic prevention mission, diplomatic staff, customs officers, officials of agencies participating in and supporting the mission, essential service providers, workers in industrial parks and export processing zones, people with chronic diseases, people over 65 years old, the poor, social protection beneficiaries, and people living in pandemic-hit areas.

The vaccination campaign will be implemented in all parts of the city as soon as the municipal authorities receive the jab allocation.

In case of insufficient supply, the priority will be narrowed down to areas with high numbers of infections, industrial parks, a dense population, and many traffic gateways.

In previous COVID-19 inoculation phases, Hanoi hit an injection rate of 70 percent, according to the municipal People’s Committee, with 30 percent of the immunization subjects not showing up at the vaccination sites or having contraindications to injection.

Authorities have administered more than 4.3 million vaccine shots since Vietnam rolled out inoculation on March 8.

About 325,000 people have been fully vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health on Thursday morning confirmed 2,967 new COVID-19 cases, including 2,965 domestic cases. The new cases have taken the country’s tally to 71,144, including 11,971 recoveries, as recorded since early 2020.

Of the latest cases, two were detected in Hanoi while 2,433 infections were logged in Ho Chi Minh City, which has recently led the country in daily new infections, with thousands of patients confirmed per day.

Since April 27, when the pandemic’s fourth wave appeared in Vietnam, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have accounted for over 760 and 43,700 cases, respectively, in the country’s total of 67,473 domestic infections.
