Foreign man found dead in Vietnam’s Covid-19 hotspot of Hai Duong

A house cleaner made the discovery at around 7 a.m., said Dinh Van Tuyen, chairman of the Cam Thuong Ward, Hai Duong Town, the capital of the province, where the complex is located.

The company, which has not been named, was subsequently disinfected and locked down by authorities. The deceased’s samples have been sent for Covid-19 testing and the result is yet to be confirmed.

“The man was an expert working for the company. We are investigating if he lived inside the company area or in nearby residential areas,” Tuyen said.

Truong Van Thao, director of the Hai Duong Town medical center, said all company workers were being monitored. If the dead man was found positive for the novel coronavirus, they would be quarantined and tested as well.

Hai Duong Province is currently the biggest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam, with 575 cases from the latest outbreak as of Thursday night. The province has imposed a 15-day social distancing campaign starting Tuesday to contain the outbreak. People are asked to stay home and not venture out, except to buy food or medicine or for other emergencies.

The latest outbreak has reached 13 cities and provinces since late January, with 755 cases recorded. The nationwide Covid-19 tally is 2,347.
