Duty-Free

Some products are exempt from tax on arrival. Below are some examples:

• Alcoholic beverages: 1.5 litres of alcoholic beverages with 22% alcohol
• 2 litres of alcoholic beverages with less than 22 % alcohol
• 3 litres of beer
• Tobacco: 200 cigarettes or 100 cigars
• Other: 5 pounds of tea, 3 pounds of coffee, gifts worth less than 1 million VND

If the value of products that you have brought with you exceeds the authorized amount, you will have to complete a No. HQ/2002-PMD declaration form and pay excess duties.

To be declared

On arrival in Vietnam, you are required to declare:

• Foreign currency if the sum exceeds US$ 5,000
• Local currency if the sum exceeds 15 million VND
• Gold if you are carrying more than 300 grams
• Videotapes and CDs (these are often kept for screening and returned to you within a few days)

Prohibited products in Vietnam

Prohibited items for import into Vietnam are the following:

• Weapons
• Firearms and ammunition
• Firecrackers
• Explosives
• Military equipment
• Drugs
• Toxic chemicals
• Dangerous toys
• Anti-government and pornographic literature, etc
