Forbes has just released a list of the 2,000 largest companies in the world – Global 2000, ranked based on four metrics of sales, profits, assets and market value.

Vietnam has 5 representatives on this list, the most ever, including Vietcombank, Vietinbank, Hoa Phat, BIDV, Techcombank. Notably, 4/5 of Vietnamese enterprises in Global 2000 are active in the banking sector, only Hoa Phat is a manufacturing enterprise.

Vietnam Foreign Trade Joint Stock Commercial Bank (Vietcombank – VCB) is the leading representative with the 950th position. In contrast, Vietnam Technological and Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Techcombank – TCB) ranks last at 1,874.

The total capitalization of the four Vietnamese banks on the list reached 46.84 billion USD, the market value of Vietcombank accounted for more than 36% of this figure.

Forbes said that despite the challenges of the pandemic and war, the world’s top companies still managed to boost sales and profits last year. Besides, the stock prices of companies also dropped heavily when inflation and bear market hindered economic growth.

Compared to last year, the minimum capitalization of companies plummeted from $8.26 billion to $7.6 billion. However, the minimum levels of other indexes all increased over the same period.

Global 2000 recorded a total of $47.6 trillion in revenue, $5 trillion in profits, $233.7 trillion in assets, and $76.5 trillion in market capitalization.
